Under 11 Round Up
The under 11 team has made an encouraging start to the season with 2 wins out of 3 games played. After a loss to a strong Lytham A team wins have followed against Fylde and Freckleton.
Against Lytham we performed well but Lytham's final 2 pairs batted well and gave them a good total. St.Annes's reply began well but they lost wickets too regularly to get near to the score. Good contributions came from under 10 captain Tommy Harrison and Dan Hallsworth with the bat and Nathan Stamp led the way with the ball.
Next St.Annes faced Fylde and produced a much improved performance. Batting first St.Annes steadily compiled a decent score after recovering from losing early wickets to make a platform for a final pair partnership of 24 by captain Thomas Bradley and Tommy Harrison pushed the total up to 256. The bowlers then made quick inroads taking early wickets with 4 wickets for Matthew Hunt and 3 for Zak Royle the highlight, Fylde finishing on 234 giving the team a 22 run victory.
Away at Freckleton the bowlers continued the momentum that had been gained against Fylde by taking early wickets and eventually restricting Freckleton to a total of 216. Pick of the bowlers were Ricky Parmar and again Zak Royle who bowled 3 overs without conceding a run. The batsmen then lost only 4 wickets in getting to a total of 254. Danny Singleton top scored and useful runs also came from Matthew Adams and Scott Holt. Holt also impressed behind the stumps.
Each team member has made a key contribution at some point in the season so far which has made it a real team effort.
Under 13 Cup Campaign
It has been very pleasing to see the Under 13's perform excellently this season and reach the cup final.
Although we ultimately lost the replayed final on Sunday morning to a very strong Lytham side our performance has demonstrated a vast improvement and has shown we are moving in the right direction. We were indeed possibly unlucky that the rain intervened on the Thursday evening when we appeared very well placed to win the game and had sent panic through the Lytham ranks.
We should take great heart that we made the final and this has shown the promise of the players within the squad. The bowling and fielding in particular have been of a high standard. Keep working boys and with a little more improvement and experience who knows next season!!!!
Under 17's
The under 17's season has begun with a convincing victory over Fylde that was followed by a disappointing loss to South Shore. Consistency is the key here and we will be relaying this to the lads before the next game.
We have a very talented set of players within the Under 17's and this is extremely pleasing as we have gone without an Under 17 team for a few seasons. All the players are playing senior cricket at varying levels and indeed we played the bank holiday weekend with 3 players in the first team (Greg Whitehead, Zaf Patel and Nathan Bolus), when combined with the 3 in the second team during the same weekend this is good for our future.
It is also a credit to our coaches over the last few years that we are now producing quality young cricketers for our future, our thanks to these coaches and long may it continue.
