Junior Cricket - Polite Notice

Polite Notice to all parents.

Could all parents please be aware that at the moment the junior cricket section is extremely busy and as a result some things may get forgotten, put to one side or things may change at late notice. The recent weather has meant that we have had many games cancelled and require re-arrangement. This requires liaising with other clubs and also depends on ground availabilty, on some nights we will have 3 of our teams playing at various places and this requires the coaching team attending. The current situation with our groundsman being off and Barry Evans very sadly taken into hospital, has meant the managers are now helping to prepare the wickets and ground for the matches.

The managers and coaching team will do all that we can to make sure everything runs smoothly but sometimes it isn’t possible to satisfy everybody and may result in slight inconvenience for some. I would like people to remember that each manager has at least 11 players and sets of parents to consider, some managers have more than one team and so have up to 30 players and sets of parents to consider. This is in their own time and before they consider their own personal life and family commitments that are often affected. They are not afforded the luxury of being able to focus on one child and make sure their individual requirements are met. If a child cannot play in a game then they are made unavailable, if they cannot attend practice they don’t go. The managers and coaches do not have this luxury.

Junior Practice Fri 11th May Postponed

With regret, junior practice is cancelled tonight, Friday 11th May, for all age groups. Myself and all the coaching staff are responsible for the safety of all children whilst they are at cricket and we will always put safety first.

With the younger age groups they tend not to have the spiked cricket shoes and so in wet conditions they will slip and slide more, this can cause not only risk for themselves but also for the others around them. This is in particular when using the hard cricket balls and when they are still inexperienced and learning the basic skills.

I apologise for this but hope you understand the difficult position we find ourselves in with regard to inclement weather.
