Losing Draws For Both
St Annes second XI can consider themselves very unlucky after rain robbed them of a possible victory in their tie at Vernon Road. Kendal batted first and were all out for just 132. St Annes lloked to be on their way to victory when the rain came leaving them on 107 - 8 after 32 overs. The first XI clung on to come away from Kendal with the draw after struggling to 125 - 9 chasing Kendal's target of 193 - 8.

Warton Ground
The ground for the 3rd and 4th teams at Warton will not be available for this season as the local council are demolishing the existing changing rooms and having a brand new building erected. These will include shower rooms, groundsman's storage facilities, Scorebox, tea room and changing rooms. These will obviously be a tremendous improvement and will be ready for the 2009 season.
We have arranged for our 3rd and 4th teams to play this season at BAe Warton. The BAe team folded this year and to have been able to secure what are to be considered one of the best facilities in the Palace Shield we consider to be a real acheivement.

Professional
Mansoor Ahmed is be the club professional for the 2008 season.
Mansoor came to St Annes after Shane Harwood was recalled to his Victoria State side in August 2007 playing the final six games of the season for the club. He scored 261 runs with a top score of 105no and claimed 17 wickets at an average of 20.59.
He is a level 2 qualified ECB coach and will be a regular part of the St Annes juniors coaching team in 2008.
Flintoff to Play for St Annes in Key Fixtures
It sounds unlikely and very probably is but following a Northern League rule change it could happen! The new rule allows professional players to play as amateurs for the club where they started out as juniors. Chorley could field Tom Smith, Blackpool Steven Croft and of course St Annes could field Andrew Flintoff. So Andy, if you are doing nothing on a Saturday afternoon and you fancy a bit of a thrash you will always be welcome.
It should be noted that St Annes voted against this rule change but were the only club to do so.
