The First XI

2009 Season

1st XI Team/Player Profiles

2004 – The 1st Team finished 9th in this league in this particular year. It was a very bad year for the club, finishing the lowest they had for a number of years. Unfortunately the club didn’t qualify for the Lancashire Cup for the 2005 season. Stephen Twist was captain this year. :Professional - West Indian legend, Jimmy Adams.

2005 – The 1st Team finished ‘Top of the League’ in this year, a remarkable change from the previous year. They had won it with weeks to spare in the league. The Captain was England & Lancashire CCC legend Ian Austin. :Professional – Australian, Shane Harwood- over 100 Wickets.

2006 – The 1st Team finished 5th in this year. Ian Austin was Captain again and with a late change in professional and also another change later in the season, it was hard to keep a regular side week in – week out. Ian Austin stepped down as captain this year. :Professionals – Australian, Adam Griffith & Pakistani, Arshad Khan.

2007 – The 1st Team finished ‘Top of the League’ again in this year. It wasn’t until the last game of the season that they won the league. Using 2 professionals and a new captain in the form wicket-keeper Duncan Whalley. :Professionals – Australian, Shane Harwood & Pakistani, Mansoor Ahmed.

2008 – The 1st Team finished 5th in this year. With a very indifferent season winning only a third of the games and the most winning draws in the league. Atiq-Uz-Zaman joins us this year and Duncan stepped down as captain. :Professional – Pakistani, Mansoor Ahmed.

2009 – Andy Kellett is now the 1st Team Captain after a number of years as 2nd captain. Andy is an experienced player and has a wealth of experience in the 1st Team. :Professional – Sri Lankan, Dinuka Hettiarachchi.

The 2009 Team

Russ Bradley - Stephen Twist - Duncan Whalley - Gareth Evans - Zaff Patel - Sean Bickerdike
David Bartholomew - Atiq Uz-Zaman - Andy Kellett - Dinuka Hettiarachchi - Nick Jones

Andy Kellett – AK

Andy is the new captain of the 1st Team, he has been the 2nd captain team for the last number of years and is making a return to the first team to hopefully bring them some more silver-wear. Andy opened the batting in the second team and was always one of the most prolific runs scorers in the league. Andy is also the club Cricket Chairman.

Russell Bradley – Doigy

Russ is a middle-order batsman who is a product of our youth team back from 1980’s, he has played at St. Annes all his life and is the current Junior Cricket Chairman. Russ is also regular at the bar at the club and puts the world to rights.

Stephen Twist – Twisty

Twisty is a left handed all-rounder. He has played at the club since a junior, he left the club for one year to become a club professional in a different league. Some say he could be the best all-rounder in the league, but that all does depend on his mood.

Duncan Whalley – Biscuits

Dunc is the wicket-keeper in the side and has been the captain for the last 2 seasons, he has given it up this year so he can concentrate on the batting side of his game. He has played alot of Lancashire 2nd XI games over the years and is said to be the best keeper in the league.

Gaz Evans – Huge Arse/OFP

Gaz is an opening batsman and a specialist fielder (not under the helmet though), he has come through the ranks as a junior and shows what the club can produce. Gaz is a good fielder and saves runs every week in the field, he has a good arm and has a good pair of hands. His only problem is he has to drag to Huge Arse across the field. Gaz is the proud father of Baby twin boys, hope he's got his ear plug ready.....

Atiq Uz-Zaman

Atiq is a top order batsman and joined us in 2008. He has played for Pakistan and is currently our club coach for the 1st & 2nd XI, he is also the Head Junior Coach.

Zaff Patel – Zaffy

Zaffy is an opening bowler and last year played for our U17’s. He moved to St. Annes CC in 2008 and made good contributions in his first year and no doubt he’ll improve as time goes on.

Greg Whitehead

Greg is a good change bowler. He is another product of our youth set-up and played in our U17’s last year. He has come on leaps and bounds in the last 2 years moving up 3 teams. He does need to work on his fielding but the lad does know that.

David Bartholomew – Barty

Barty is an all-rounder, he returned to St Annes in 2003 after playing for Blackpool. His experience is a great asset for the side and also for our junior players. Barty plays for the Lancashire Over Fifty XI during the season, the highlight playing in the final at Lords in 2008.

Michael Baer – Yogi

Yogi is returning to St Annes after a year as a professional in the Lancashire league. He is a fine bowler who has already played for the Lancashire second XI.

Nick Jones – Jonesy

Nick is an all-rounder in the side, this will be his first full season at St. Annes CC as he has been at university for the last 3 years. Nick normally played in the 3rd XI when he came back from university, where he knocked up 188 in 30 overs in one game.

h5> Sean Bickerdike – Bigga/ Biggsy

Sean is an all-rounder and has played for the 1st & 2nd XI over the years. He is a prolific batsman and worries most sides when he walks out to bat. Sean is quite injury prone and has been over the years.

Heather

Heather is the 1st XI scorer. She started in 2008 and hopefully will continue for the foreseeable future.
