Match Report
St Annes lost their first league game of the season against the team that also knocked them out of the cup earlier in the season.
Thornton won the toss and elected to bat first and an excellent opening stand saw them steadily build the innings. St Annes worked hard in the field and bowled well to restrict Thornton to a gettable 112 of their allotted overs, the wickets going to spinners Matthew Taaffe and James Remnant, the other from a Scott Holt run out. The St Annes innings started well with Taaffe and new arrival Richard Whiteside showing an instant understanding by taking several quick singles. However, the loss of Whiteside followed by Mitch Bolus put St Annes under pressure and when Taaffe had to retire following an excellent 30 that pressure increased. St Annes were given hope by Jake Higson's hard hitting 25 but were left with too much to do and Thornton ran out comfortable and deserved winners.
