St - Annes 15's Vs Norcross 15's Cup Quarter-Final
St Annes got their season off to a winning start in the Cup against Norcross. The visitors fell 19 runs short of St Annes' Total of 95 for 7 (Luke Wilks 49 & Jack Todd 30).
Norcross won the toss and elected to field. They started off promisingly with opening bowlers Winnall & Berry both bowling well on a slow track. After losing two early wickets St Annes were up against it when Jack Todd marched to the crease to join Luke Wilks. The pair then put on a stand of eighty to put St Annes in a strong position. Todd struck the ball well scoring five fours in a quickfire 30. Captain Wilks batted superbly picking up cheeky ones and dispatching loose deliveries. He was eventually out on forty-nine in the penultimate over charging down the wicket trying to hit over the top. Luke was desperately unlucky not to get to a half century as his innings was near perfect.
St Annes opened the bowling with Ben Willis (3 for 6 off his 4 overs) and Nathan Bolus (1for9 off 3 overs). They blew away the Norcross top order with some quality pace bowling. Willis was magnificent generating too much pace and accuracy for a young Norcross team. All Ben's wickets were clean bowled and greeted with loud cheers from supporters and team mates. There were also good contributions with the ball from Michael Moore, Steve Clarkson and James Rowbottom.
After losing several early wickets Norcross did make a fight back with Willetts 27 and Heys 11 but it was in vein as St Annes went comfortably through to the next round.
