Match Report

Matt's the shore thing

Team Report
St - Annes 15's Vs South Shore 15's Cup Semi-Final

St Annes booked their place in the final after another exciting and close game with South Shore. The home team fell just 6 runs short of St Annes' Total of 74 for 6 (Ben Willis 25).

South Shore won the toss and elected to field. They started off well dismissing last week's hero Luke Wilks first ball with an unplayable delivery from Star Man Hessey. St Annes fought back with Ben Willis and Nathan Bolus putting on a good partnership for the second wicket. Nathan rotated the strike well and Ben played some good shots for his 25 which including two fours and one huge straight six. South Shore bowled well and took wickets at regular intervals restricting St Annes to a modest total of 74. At the break South Shore looked to be favourites.

St Annes opened the bowling with Ben Willis (1 for 7 off his 4 overs) and Nathan Bolus (0 for 8 off 4 overs). They didn't give the openers anything, bowling really tight. After Ten Overs, South Shore were only 15 for 2. With the pressure increasing on South Shore to raise the run rate they started to take risky runs and play expansive shots. The game then swung in South Shore's favour with wickets in hand and a partnership developing between R Goodier and J Emmett. However, with the game evenly poised Matthew Grindley came on to bowl. Matthew bowled superbly dismissing the middle order at such a crucial time of the game (3 for 14 off his 4 overs). Going into the last over, South Shore needed 12 but with the field out and Nathan Bolus bowling the last over it was too much to ask for the South Shore lower order. There were also good contributions with the ball from Michael Moore and Steve Clarkson who dismissed the dangerous R Goodier for 24.

The game for St Annes was won in the first 10 overs due to fantastic fielding and tight pressure created by a strong bowling attack. The final will be played next week at St Annes against Lytham or Freckleton. All cricket fans are welcome and the lads would appreciate your support.
