St - Annes 13's Vs Blackpool 13's Cup
St Annes under 13's commenced their season with an excellent victory in the cup at Blackpool.
Blackpool batted first and could only manage 51 for 8 off their 20 overs, this was thanks to some disciplined St Annes bowling throughout the innings. St Annes used all 10 bowlers and they all bowled a good line and length to frustrate the opposition. The pick of the bowlers were captain Mitch Bolus, Liam Whitehead and under 11 captain Tom Bradley whose 2 overs only cost a single run. The fielding was also a feature with a superb catch from James Taylor the outstanding highlight.
On a slow wicket and damp heavy outfield the St Annes reply had to show patience and disciplined shot selection. This was demonstrated to the full by opener Matthew Taaffe(14) to get the team off to a solid start. Taaffe built a platform that, once he departed, Matt Hartley (19) continued with some hard hitting. St Annes always kept ahead of the run rate and the middle order of Tyler Douthwaite, Josh Lacey and Jake Higson saw St Annes home in comfort to win by 4 wickets with 2 overs to spare.
It was a very encouraging start to the season and as with the under 15's the week before the boys demonstrated a magnificent team spirit and determined approach towards the game.
Man of the Match - Matt Hartley
