Match Report
Robbed of several key players through absence and call up to higher teams, the fourth team recorded a fine victory over Buxtons, to remain the most successful team in the club on current form.
Both sides could field only ten men, although St Annes only managed that by registering under elevens player Mitch Bolus on the day of the match.
St Annes batted first on a difficult pitch characterised by low bounce. Runs were hard to come by, but a patient and resolute approach, paid off. The stand of the innings was between Graham Walters (15) and Ian Howe (13) who along with Roy Male (8 n.o.) and Dan Martin (7) saw the fourths reach a total of 82.
In the field, St Annes recovered from seeing the first two overs go for 16, to steadily take control, after Nathan Bolus's stunning one handed diving catch off opener Howe removed the dangerous Birtwistle. Mick Auty then took three quick wickets to put the skids under the Buxtons innings. Howe bowled unchanged and finished with 4-30, Auty had 3-16 whilst Bolus and Walters got a wicket apiece.
St Annes took16 very satisfying points away from a sunny Stanley Park.
