Match Report

The start of the second half of the season started with a long trip to Barrow for the 2nd X1. Getting there wasn't without complications. First of all Gareth Costin and Greg Whitehead left the scorer in St Annes and had to come back from Preston to get him. Then when we eventually got to Barrow, the captain realised that he'd left the scorebook in St Annes! Not a great start, Buff still had his sandwiches with him though! St Annes won the toss and asked Barrow to bat first. The ever improving Greg Whitehead bowled well at the start again and Barrow made a slow start. Young Barrow opener eventually made a fine 70 but wickets kept falling at the other end. It was a very good, solid bowling and fielding performance by all and Barrow eventually were bowled out in the last over for 170.

Sean Bickerdike felt his hamstring and achilees (or was it Calf!) in the first innings and needed a runner when he batted. St Annes lost prolific opening batter Adam Taylor early, caught at Slip due to the Roller! St Annes then made better progress, 1 legged Sean Bickerdike and fallen 1st team hero Russ Bardley both making valuable 30's. St Annes then lost a few wickets near the end but won in the last over due a fine 25 not out by moody Dave Bartholomew and Greg Whiteheads 5 not out.

A very good team performance and it's now 3 league wins in a row. However consistency is the key as St Annes can't afford any slip ups as they are still 35 points behind leaders Lancaster and Netherfield.
