Match Report
A clash of the golden oldies at St Annes where for at least the 100th time St Annes veteran Dave Bartholomew came up against Leyland golden oldie Sifton Prince!
A disapointing result for the 2nd team as they fell to a 3 wicket defeat.
St Annes lost a crucial toss and were asked to bat first. The highlight of the St Annes innings was a magnificent 92 not out from the rarely available Johnny Ashworth. As other batters struggled and wickets constantly fell Johnny paced his innings to perfection making sure he was there for the last few overs where he took advantage of some tired bowling. The score of 192 however was below par on a good wicket with a short boundary.
In the Leyland reply St Annes made an excellent start with the in form Paul Williams taking a catch behind of the also in form Rick Thomas in the first over. Wickets tumbled fairly regularly and St Annes looked to be in a good position. However some loose bowling always meant that Leyland never really got too far behind the rate. A fine 40 not out by Leylands Vinnie Jones saw them home with 3 wickets to spare. It was a disapointng last hour of play where Leyland scored the runs they needed helped by a couple of dropped catches and some poor bowling and fielding.
