Match Report

In a bottom of the table clash at Vernon Rd St Annes lost the toss and were asked to bat first. St. Annes made 260 for 3 with fine contributions from all 4 batsmen who batted. 94 not out from Adam Taylor was a fine innings and a swashbulking 45 by GarethCostin was a highlight which included some fine hitting. A good first half from St Annes but on a good wicket with the usual short boundary, the task of bowling Carnforth out was not going to be an easy one. St Annes 2nd X1 regular palyers thought they were going to be in for a relatively quiet day with Cumbrian psycopath John Musgrave and Cleveleys psycopath Rick Thomas both in the 1st team. However with Ben Dowling making his 2nd X1 debut things were never going to be quiet. Ben's 'sledge' to a Carnforth batter of 'How many test match cricketers have you played against' was definately 1 of the moments of the season!. Carnforth scored at a decent run rate but lost wickets fairly gradually. Ben Dowling ended with a 5 wicket return. Ben bowled fast and impressively. Good contributions were also made from the other bowlers. Credit to Luke O'Day on his debut who bowled 6 good overs taking 1 wicket. For the first time in a number of weeks St Annes also caught plenty of catches. Carnforth were bowled out for 195 and this gave St Annes 2nd X1 a 15 point win. This was a nervous but very good performance by the 2nds and a run of performances is now required to get St Annes 2nd X1 back towards the top of the table.
