Match Report

After a close, hard fought game between two evenly matched sides, Fylde came out on top winning by 2 runs.

Fylde won the toss and elected to bat. Stuart Walters opened the bowling with Ben Willis. The pair are showing considerable promise as an opening partnership. Stuart kept it tight early on and during his second spell bowled accurately sending two batsmen back to the pavilion with stumps out of the ground. Stuart finished with figures of 2 for 9 off 4 overs. Ben bowled with brisk pace and was unlucky to finish without any wickets bowling well at the death.

The team bowled and fielded well and there were some good contributions by Nathan Bolus, Alex Moffat and Ashley Ward, who was unlucky to finish with only one wicket because of a few catches put down off his bowling.

St Annes opened the batting with captain Luke Wilks and Nathan Bolus requiring 86 off their 20 overs. Fylde requested 2 sub fielders as bizarrely they were delayed due to playing in another game. Ironically, the first wicket to fall was the unfortunate Luke who top edged it to fine leg where a St Annes sub fielder took the catch. The next over the missing Fylde players arrived to join the field.

Fylde bowled well early on and restricted St Annes to only 26 off the first 10 overs. At the fall off the second wicket Stuart Walters came to the wicket. He showed good aggressive intent from ball one. After the wicket of Jack Todd, Ben Willis came to crease. Stuart and Ben put on 32 for the next wicket to give St Annes a chance of winning. Unfortunately, in the need for quick runs Stuart was bowled using his feet for 13 and Ben was run out going for a risky third. Ben finished up on 15 off nearly a run a ball. That partnership meant that with two overs left St Annes needed 21. The dismissal of Stuart brought in Alex Moffat who straight away hit a six over square leg to ensure that St Annes needed 10 off the last over to win. Due to some good slow bowling and the field being spread the team could only get 7 off the final over falling 3 runs short. Overall a very good effort.
