Match Report

A superb team performance from St Annes secured the victory on pleasant evening at Great Eccleston. (St Annes won by 7wickets) St Annes won the toss and elected to field.

The new ball didn't do a lot with the Great Eccleston openers making a positive start with Parkinson of Eccleston finishing on 50 in the twenty overs. The team recovered well on a small ground and favourable batting conditions, to strike in the third over with an athletic bit of fielding by Ben Willis to run the opener out. The team looked sharp in the field mainly due to good practice sessions during the week and dedication shown by members of the team. This gave St Annes confidence to push for more wickets and increase the pressure on Eccleston. After an initial fight back by Great Eccleston, Nathan Bolus came onto bowl and took out the middle order with some tight and accurate bowling (3 for 19 off 4overs). St Annes continued to impress in the field and with the ball taking further wickets and some outstanding catches. Ashley Ward bowled particular well bamboozling batsmen with plenty of turn on an artificial track. Ashley Ward finished with figures of 3 for 7 off his 4 overs.

St Annes opened the batting with captain Luke Wilks and Nathan Bolus requiring 95 off their 20 overs. St Annes started off slowly losing Luke Wilks and Stuart Walters early on. In a need to pick up the rate in the 10th over St Annes batted positively with aggressive intent mainly shown by Ben Willis. After a spirited display by Willis he was dismissed for 19. The dismissal brought Ashley Ward to the crease and together with Nathan Bolus they batted superbly to give St Annes victory with Ashley hitting two big sixes off his legs to give the new coach his first win.
