Tonight's performance was one of the best all round team efforts seen by a junior side for some time. Every single player contributed in some way towards this victory and was typified by Greg Levi's stunning one-handed catch, which would be the winner of Test Match Special's memorable moment of the day.
St.Annes winning the toss elected to bat on what looked a superb batting wicket. The opening pair Greg Whitehead (forty seven from sixty five balls) and Tom Andrew (thirty four from thirty balls) proved that it was a good wicket by playing some stylish shots. They put on seventy-nine for the first wicket. Peter Kenyon (twenty n.o.) and Lewis Williams (twelve) continued to keep the run rate up to just under seven.St.Annes finished on one hundred and thirty one for three.
The St.Annes bowlers set about their task admirably and picked up wickets regularly throughout the Fleetwood innings and with the help of some superb fielding restricted Fleetwood to eighty-seven for nine, which contained eighteen extras.St.Annes used nine bowlers and they all performed very well. Ashley Ward had the best figures taking three wickets for nine runs in his three overs. Lewis Williams, Peter Kenyon, Ben Willis, Luke Olsson and Andrew Walkden took one wicket each.
