Match Report

Painfully slow batting on a rain sodden pitch with heavy and long outfield cost St Annes dearly as they were stopped from recording their second successive win and was scant reward for an excellent effort by the bowlers.

After a terrific opening spell from Ian Howe and David Starkie, Mike Harris stepped in for his first bowl since injury from a car accident. It was hugely to his credit that although his first two overs went for 13, he still finished with figures of 5/16 off 8. st Annes were again sharp in the field and Luke Wilks was excellent.

After Mick Auty was caught at the start of the fourth over, Nigel Bernstein and Vijay Chandrasekar were severely reined in by some tight bowling and the latter struck the only two boundaries of the innings where the ball continually stopped or plugged in the outfield. They fell further behind the undemanding asking rate and although Tim Rawstron injected some aggression late on, it was too much to ask of the lower middle order.
