Match Report

St Annes opened their season in powerhouse style with a maximum points win and with only five minutes of play remaining.

Asked to bat first, Wyre could only make moderate progress against the tight opening attack of Peter Kenyon and David Starkie but when Rob Abbott came in, sparks flew as he thundered his way to a lusty 82.To their credit, St Annes never lost their composure on a warm sunny day and Paul Wilks led the way with 4/61. The fielding was excellent and Roy Male added assurance behind the stumps.

Although stand in skipper Mick Auty left early for 9, Nigel Bernstein gave his usual reliable performance and was unlucky to narrowly miss out on a well deserved 50. However, Paul Wilks made it his day with a terrific unbeaten 75 and this added to late undefeated flurry of 21 from Nick Lees, St Annes powered home.

St Annes take 16 points to Wyre's 4.
