Match Report

On a day when opening bowlers Ian Howe and Mike Harris shared 40 overs and respective figures of 2/38 and 5/47 along with a fine, aggressive show on the field, it was sad that such a flabby batting performance should consign St Annes to a 35 run defeat.

The first 30 overs of Baxi's innings yielded a mere 56 runs and although acceleration was inevitable, it was to St Annes' credit that the eventual total was so low. Keeper Roy Male made two fine stumpings and some excellent takes whilst Rhydian Burstow and Alex Walkden were lively in the field.

However at 12 for 4, they were well up against it. The damage was partly repaired by a fine stand between Gary Woods (19) and Greg Whithead (22) and skipper Tim Rawstron (12) threatened to hangaround until he was bowled by one of several balls that kept very low. The end soon followed.
