Match Report

On yet another hot day, St Annes turned up the temperature as they overwhelmed a brave young Preston outfit.

Taking first strike Mick Auty (26) and Paul Wilks (44) gave them a great start with 77 for the first wicket. Adrian Speakman (11) and Ashok Velivela (17) both fell to unwise shots but that only let in Vijay Chandrasekar who looked near back to his best with a crisp 39. He added 81 with 14 year old Greg Whitehead who in only his 3rd outing for the fourths struck the ball with withering power for a storming, unbeaten 72. Luke Wilks (11 not out) helped in another unbeaten stand of 43.

Preston were most stubborn in their reply and St Annes had to work hard for their wickets. Once again they were indebted to Ian Howe (3/16) and Mike Harris (5/17) who shared 24 overs between them. Roy Male took 3 smooth catches behind the stumps and in an overall excellent fielding show, Ashok Velivela, Adrian Speakman and Luke Wilks were outstanding.
