Match Report

Another hot afternoon of toil brought St Annes little reward in a match they simply should have won.

With batsmen returning after last week's appalling shortages, they had few answers to a tight bowling attack and posted a total that was probably around 40 below par. Vijay Chandrasekar showed signs of a return to form, Gary Woods batted well and there were some good confident shots from 14 year old Greg Whitehead who joint top scored on 16.

The bowling reply started promisingly as Mike Harris and Dave Starkie applied a tight stranglehold but Comrades profited from several slices of great luck and got home with some ease. Harris deserves a special mention for a heroic effort on a boiling day as he turned in 18 unchanged overs for 2 for 25. The fielding was also good with Nick Lees and Rhydian Burston outstanding.

Comrades take 17 points to St Annes 2.
