Match Report

St Annes increased their lead at the top of the Surridge Northern Premier League to sixteen points following a comfortable 148 run win over Leyland Motors at Vernon Road on Saturday.

St Annes lost the toss and were asked to bat first and some poor dismissals saw them reduced to 75 for 5 only Stephen Twist and Danny Hagen (41) to turn things round with a 100 partnership. This partnership followed by some big hitting from Adam Cotton (42) enabled the home side to reach 243 for 8 at the close of their innings, with Twist run out on the last ball for a superb 83.

Professional Shane Harwood and Ian Austin made the most of the new ball and soon reduced Motors to 11 for 4, Harwood bowling with great pace and Austin with his normal accuracy. The Motors innings then received some middle order solidity only for Harwood to return to the attack to rip through the rest of the Motors batting to finish with excellent figures of 7 for 20 from his 14 overs.

St Annes hope to continue this form next week with a trip to Kendal.
