Match Report

A quite extraordinary march was dictated by the bowler-friendly track on which St Josephs had no hesitation in asking St Annes to bat first.

Excellent bowling backed up by top class fielding gave them a terrific edge and St Annes gave themselves little chance with two poor run outs and three intended drives that unerringly found fielders. Phalash Whalishetti and young Tom Appleby applied themselves as they tried to recover from the disaster of 9 for 7.

However, St Annes lack nothing in spirit and they rocked back their high flying opponents with a powerful performance with the ball. Again, the fielding was faultless. Kulbinder Virdee and Dave Starkie both caused all sorts of problems and it would have been interesting to think of the reply to an initial score of around 60.

St Josephs progress to the next round and St Annes will look to to bounce back in the league next week against Fleetwood.
