Match Report

Late cry-offs left stand-in skipper Michael Harris with 9 players including 5 debutants facing top of the league St Josephs. After asking the opposition to bat first, St Annes fielded brilliantly and, although the runs came at a steady rate, St Josephs were bowled out in 21 overs. 15 year old David Harris dismissed both openers to catches by 16 year old brother Joel, the second of which was a remarkably athletic full length dive at point. All the bowlers took wickets - one apiece to Ashok Velivela, Phalash Whalishetti and David Starkie with Joel and Michael Harris taking two each. Rhyd Burstow kept wicket creditably.

At 39-0 off 8 overs, an upset was on the cards but Joel Harris' dismissal for 26 (including 2 huge sixes) was followed by a flurry of dismissals with only VG Chandrasekhar and Harris senior reaching double figures.

Although losing the game, the whole St Annes team can be proud of the way they played and the new boys should be encouraged by their enthusiastic debut efforts.
