Match Report

The Crabtree Cup Final was a close affair with St Annes competing blow for blow with a side that are 2 divisions and 30 places above them in the league.

Vernon chose to bat first on winning the toss and St Annes bowled superbly to restrict them to 85-2 at the halfway stage, with Andy Taylor bowling beautifully without luck going for just 18 off his 8 overs. However the division C side showed the advantage of having wickets in hand as they were able to post a competative 171-6 off their allocation of 40 overs with Graham Tindall taking a fine 4-36.

In reply St Annes lost Tim Bernstein early but the Hartleys built a solid platform and then at the loss of the ELF, Paul Williams played some thoroughbred strokes to score 23. After that partnership was broken however, noone could support Mike Hartley whose 49 off 113 balls was not quite enough for the thirds.
