The pitch told the most vivid story especially when allied to high quality fast bowling from John Hodgson of Baxi.
Tim Rawstron had no hesitation in bowling at Baxi and his ten men- showing seven changes did him proud. Ian Howe with 2-13 on his debut, Tom Heap(3-10) Mike Harris(2-10)Chris Cairns(2-0) and Arshad Javed(1-6 in 8 overs) were backed by some stunning catches of which Javed and Simon Hurst each held two of the highest quality.
The low target was never going to be easy to reach as Hodgson of Baxi bowled quite brilliantly in the most helpful conditions. Once the top order had gone, Tim Rawstron tried to blast the team out of trouble and briefly threatened until he was bowled off his pads. Then Mike Harris holed out and an extraordinary game was all over.
