Match Report

The details of this report are not complete as St Annes' scorebookhas been inadvertently taken away by Comrades cc after the match and so it has been reconstructed from memory.

St Annes took full advantage of a rare opportunity to perform on the club's main ground and rose to it superbly. Skipper Tim Rawstron decided to bowl first on a track that was full of runs but with overhead conditions in clear favour of the bowlers. The young opening attack of Peter Jackson and Tom Shillito threatened from the start and how Jackson's two fiery spells did not earn at least three wickets defies belief. Arshad Javed(4-21) and Gary Woods(2-26) took over and Javed especially strangled Comrades' attempts to push along the scoring rate. Woods was fiery and complemented his two wickets with a stunning slip catch. Paul Baer was tidy and veteran Tom Heap chipped in at the end with the help of all his experience and a steepling long on catch by Rawstron.

When they batted, Nigel Bernstein uncharacteristically failed for the first time this season but Paul Wilks (44 not out) and Javed(45) both unfurled a fine array of strokes before Javed unluckily played on. John Dougall(18 no)steered them home to a super and classy win.
