Match Report

On a warm and heavy day, St Annes controlled nearly all the game but were unlucky to only come away with a winning draw.

Asked to bat first, they were given the customary solid start by Nigel Bernstein (37)before the tempo was picked up by Gary Woods who struck a muscular and sometimes fortunate 44. Further useful runs came down the order from Adrian Speakman (18 not out), Matt Dougall (17) and 'keeper Roy Male (13 not out) before skipper Tim Rawstron was allowed the luxury of a declaration.

Wyre rarely looked likely to aim for the target and particularly so against a superb opening burst from Matt Dougall and Tom Heap. Mick Auty later produced a good spell but Mike Harris with 3 for 8 from 8 overs gave St Annes a glimmer of a win. However, Chris Gregson struck a rapid 50 mostly against the returning Heap and the rarely seen leg spin of Rawstron and the match petered out.

St Annes take 9 points to Wyre's 7.
