Match Report

On an afternoon where rain threatened to disrupt proceedings,Tim Rawstron's decision to bat first was correct and would have probably paid off in full as Nigel Connolly and Manoj Kuttappan ripped into Comrades order after they had sat comfortably at 35 without loss. However the rain came with half an hour to play and St Annes looking their sharpest of the season. Gary Woods on his Fourth team debut bowled with great heart and effort and was desperately unlucky to be unrewarded for ten fiery overs at very low cost. The fielding was first rate with Nick Lees, Roger Hughes and Paul Wilks outstanding.

Earlier, Wilks and Hughes overcame the early loss of Mick Auty to add 60 runs in entertaining style. Wilks batted with great maturity for his 35 and Hughes'29 was richly deserved. The attack was carried on by Vijay Chandasekar (17) and Nick Lees (17 not out).

Another promising performance and although they still await their first win, it must surely be close at hand if this spirit can be maintained.
