Match Report
Calder Vale had no hesitation in asking St Annes to bat first on a track very badly affected by the weeks rain and on which runs were very hard to score.
John Dougall gave the innings a solid start with a disciplined 27 until he annoyed himself by chasing a wide one. Nigel Connolly brougth all his vast experience to bear as he ground out an uncharacteristically quiet 34 and received useful support from young players Adrian Speakman and Michael Baer. Late impetus was added by Michael Robinson who blasted a breezy 22.
Calder Vale's much vaunted top order was quickly demolished by the commendably in-form Tom Heap and the shutters were well and truly put up when they stood precariously at 7 for 5. He finished with a superb 5 for 5 from 11 overs. Michael Baer bowled 9 overs of beautiful spin for a mere 7 runs whilst Nigel Connolly and Nick Jone's 7 overs yielded only 4 runs as they tried to finish the job.
St Annes take 8 points for a winning draw to Calder Vale's 5.
