Match Report

A thoroughly hard-working and spirited performance failed to bring St Annes that elusive first win but they were clearly in charge for almost all of the game.

In the absence of the usual openers, keeper John Dougall (12) gave solid support to Amol Chitre whose knock of 55 simply oozed class and contained some beautifully timed shots. Adrian Speakman (14) and Gary Woods with a belligerent 15 then both gave vital support to the consistently excellent Nigel Connolly (33 not out).

The first wicket for Calder Vale put on 83 but not without alarms as Gary Woods caused both batsmen problems with his fiery pace and Tom Heap bowled nine overs of excellent line and length. Woods gave another big-hearted performance as his 16 unchanged overs earned him figures of 2-31. By now,Calder Vale had elected to bat out time and a good late spell of 1-4 in 5 overs from Manoj Kuttappan asked further questions of them.

St Annes take 8 points to Calder Vale's 6.
