Match Report
Great patience was needed on a slow, rain-affected track and St Annes had this in abundance.
Put in to bat, they were quickly 2 for 2 before Nigel Connolly again arrived to play the most masterful of innings. His 61 contained five fours and three vast sixes and he drew useful support firstly from opener Mick Auty (16) and later Mick Renshaw (17) and John Dougall (16).
A confident, and-as was to be proved- well timed declaration from Tim Rawstron gave St Annes nearly 50 overs to bowl out their stubborn opponents. They achieved this with two overs to spare mostly thanks to a great hearted effort from Connolly whose 13 near-unplayable overs earned him 3-20 and Mick Auty whose all-round show produced 5-38. Young spinner Paul Wilks again bowled well, as did Mick Kelliher and Tom Heap. They were fully supported by another sharp display in the field with catches from Roger Hughes (2) and Martin Robinson being outstanding.
St Annes take 17 points to Anchorsholme's 4.
