St Annes abysmal record against Chorley continued as they were well beaten by 104 runs. St Annes almost held out as there was just one over of the last twenty to go when Marquet trapped Whalley in front to give Chorley a fifteen point win.
Earlier a 144 run partnership for the third wicket between captain Horridge and the experienced Heaton was the backbone of the Chorley innings. Both batsmen gave chances which were not taken and St Annes rued the consequences. Davies emerged as the best of the bowlers with his 4-53.St Annes were therefore set a formidable total of 234 to win.
As it happened it was a rearguard action virtually from the start as St Annes slumped to 43-5. professional Callaghan having been splendidly caught low down by rival professional Marquet.
Cotton and Bickerdike gave some hope that a draw might be possible but after their departure and a few blows from Whalley it was all over.
St Annes will be mightily disappointed to take nothing from the game and title hopes look a little further away
