| Match Report
A topsy-turvy game in which Preston recovered from the depths of 24-7,to have St Annes at 29-3 before St Annes knuckled down to reach their total and take another 12 points fot their victory.
It had all seemed so easy for St Annes at the start - Callaghan had the figures of 5-8 at one stage and Preston had slumped to 24-7.A remarkable stand of 82 for the eigth wicket between Parekh and Wright then took place,in which Wright contributed just one single. The score had soared to 106 before Darlington broke through. The admirable Parekh was last man out at 111, he had scored 80 with 12 fours and had batted nine minutes short of two hours.Preston did at least now have something to bowl at.
St Annes started shakily against the pacey Akbar --- Evans caught at the wicket,Callaghan caught low down by the bowler and Bradley adjudged lbw, had all departed before Darlington and Cotton set their stalls out to ensure there was to be no shock result. Following ther departures the relaible pair of Bickerdike and Davies saw St Annes home in the 44th over.
A game in which the result had seemed a formality after an hour had turned into a hard fought struggle. That's the beauty of cricket.
