Match Report

Yet another thrilling match with St Annes exiting from the Lancashire Cup in the final over with a six wanted off the last ball to win. It was not to be as Taylor was clean bowled. Five overs earlier it had looked so different with the St Annes total on 195 -5. Callaghan ,Banks and Bickerdike all departed on the same score and the victory had slipped away. Kearsley, who had to play the fixture without their professional who was on Test duty amassed a challenging total of 209 . This was built around a second wicket partnership of 166 between ex-Cambridge blue Ratledge and home captain Thompson. It mattered little when both were out late in the innings with Ratledge reaching a splendid century from 126 balls. Many St Annes supporters were baffled by the non-bowling of Banks and Zak Taylor to try and break this partnership.

St Annes started confidently with 52 for the first wicket and after the loss of the openers and Davies and Bradley to questionable lbw's, Callaghan and Cotton shared a 71 run partnership which should have been the basis for victory. A splendid game only marred by some poor umpiring. What are we going to do on Sunday afternoons now?
